Arsenal dealt injury blow ahead of Champions League showdown with Olympiacos

Arsenal have been dealt a blow after Piero Hincapie missed training ahead of the Champions League clash at home to Olympiacos.

Hincapie has played just once for Arsenal after joining on loan from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

The left-back came off the bench for the final few minutes of Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Athletic Club in the Champions League earlier this month to make his debut.

Hincapie has been struggling with a groin issue since then and it has forced him to be on the sidelines.

Mikel Arteta stressed earlier this month how the problem was not serious and he expected the defender to return soon.

The Arsenal boss also explained how Hincapie was struggling due to a lack of pre-season, which came after he had surgery in the summer.

“There’s been a change of load, and he didn’t really have a pre-season after the surgery that he had,” said Arteta.

Arsenal are back in action on Wednesday night when they face Olympiacos in their second game of the Champions League this season.

The Gunners won their opening match in Bilbao 2-0 after goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

Arteta is likely to make changes for Wednesday’s game at home to Olympiacos, with Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly hoping to start.

Martin Odegaard, who made his comeback off the bench at the weekend in the win over Newcastle, should get minutes again.

Ben White may come into the defence and Mikel Merino is an option in midfield, if Arteta decides to give Rice the night off.
