Arsenal dealt Emi Buendia transfer setback as Norwich send clear message amid Aston Villa links

Arsenal may have already received a setback in their bid to sign Norwich City star Emiliano Buendia.

Buendia has been on the Gunners' radar for some time, but they decided not to act on that interest in January, instead signing Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid.

But the Argentine is back on the table for Arsenal, and it's understood an offer of around £30million has already been made ahead of the summer transfer window.

And it is also reported Premier League rivals Aston Villa have made a very similar bid as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.

Though, Sky Sports are now reporting that both teams have had their £30million bids rejected swiftly by Norwich City, who are said to want £40million, especially now that they have purchased the 20% sell-on fee clause from Getafe, the club they bought the midfielder from in 2018 for just over £1million.

The report claims, however, that Arsenal have already gone back in with a fresh bid for Buendia, thought to be worth around £35million as they seek to get closer to the Canaries' valuation.

Norwich's position has been strengthened after they secured promotion to the Premier League, meaning they can now afford to wait out to get the very most from their talented midfielder.

That could mean Arsenal will have to pay the full £40million asking price to get their man, particularly with interest from Aston Villa and reportedly from another 'big European side'.

The Gunners might want to consider biting the bullet in order to beat Villa to the punch, but if that £35million bid is to true, it's clear they are still trying to save every penny in the potential deal.

One thing is for sure, the transfer saga is not over yet.
