Arsenal’s transfer window went right down the wire, with Takehiro Tomiyasu’s arrival coming just before the 11pm deadline on Tuesday night.
The full-back became the sixth Gunners signing of an unprecedented summer window that saw Mikel Arteta backed to the tune of £156million.
Tomiyasu joined Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale and Martin Odegaard in a window that represented a period of monumental change at the Emirates.
As well as spending the most of any club in the Premier League and Europe as a whole, Arsenal were also active in shifting players that were not in Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans.
In total, ten senior players were granted exits with Hector Bellerin, Runar Alex Runarsson and Reiss Nelson all moving on the final day of the window.
But despite the window closing in England and most of the top leagues in Europe, there is still the opportunity for more exits.
Turkey’s transfer window is still open for another few days, not closing until September 8, giving Super Lig clubs more time to complete any last-minute deals.
And Arsenal in particular, have a number of players that have been linked with a move to the Turkish top-flight during the summer.
Sead Kolasinac is perhaps the player most extensively linked with a move abroad, with Fenerbahce reportedly tracking the Bosnian for much of the window.
The full-back appears surplus to requirements under Arteta, although he has appeared in the Carabao Cup this season. It has been previously suggested his proposed move collapsed due to financial demands, while an injury suffered on international duty could also make things difficult.
Mesut Ozil is said to have spoken to bosses at the club, in order to push through a move for his former teammate.
Meanwhile, reports on Tuesday claimed that Mohamed Elneny was in-talks with an unnamed Turkish club over sealing a Gunners exit.
Elneny has just one year remaining on his current contract and finds himself behind Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey and Lokonga in the midfield pecking order.
Cedric Soares is another that could be on the move, and another that has piqued the interest of Fenerbahce in recent weeks.
However, Football.London suggest that despite Tomiyasu’s arrival adding more competition at right-back, the Portuguese is determined to fight for a place in Arteta’s plans.
Earlier this summer, Goal claimed Arsenal sources were asking fans to judge their transfer work at the end of the window, but it may yet be a few more days before a final assessment can be made.
