Arsenal's financial situation come the summer hinges heavily on their status as a European force.
Qualification for the Champions League via the top four feels like too big of a task for Mikel Arteta's men, but they do still possess a chance of sneaking into Europe's most elite competition courtesy of the Europa League.
However, should they fall short of Europa League glory, or even worse, fail to qualify for the Europa League after finishing outside of the top six - and Mikel Arteta's job could become even more difficult.
Many clubs will be strapped for cash across the league, none more so than Arsenal who rely so heavily on gate revenue - an income stream they have been without for well over a year. These factors may mean Arteta will have little choice but to part ways with a number of players should Arsenal fall short of Champions/Europa League qualification.
The Arsenal boss has already conceded: “The amount to do will be unprecedented again." The Gunners have announced a £47.8 million loss for the financial year and could be set to lose more than £150 million this season alone.
The club also took out a short-term £120 million government loan from the Bank of England, which is repayable in May but could be rolled over for another year.
As well as the financial constraints that would be implemented by failing to qualify for any European competition, question marks would be raised whether Arsenal were in a position to hold on to some of their brightest talents, including teenage sensation Bukayo Saka.
Saka has six goals and seven assists in all competitions this season, at the tender age of 19 he would have plenty of potential suitors.
The England winger is also one of the few members of this current Arsenal squad Arteta could expect to generate serious funds. In January Saka was valued at €116.2million (£105.11m) by The CIES Football Observatory - more than Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati (€108.4m), Tottenham captain Harry Kane (€107m) and Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry (€103.3m).
Arsenal will focus their attentions on keeping Martin Odegaard at the club beyond next season, but the midfielder's impressive form at the Emirates means the on-loan Real Madrid star could prove expensive to sign on a permanent deal.
As reported by football.london, Odegaard has told those close to him that he would like to stay at Arsenal beyond the end of this season.
But whether the Gunners can afford him or not, may depend on their other summer business.
