Arsenal could confirm Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang new contract 'in next few days', says Mikel Arteta

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract extension could be announced “in the next few days”.

The Gunners skipper is in the final 12 months of his existing deal but is expected to agree a new three-year contract to keep him at the Emirates until 2023.

Arteta’s men got their Premier League campaign off to the perfect start with a 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday, with Aubameyang opening his account for the season with a terrific right-footed finish.

Speaking to BT Sport about the prospect of his star man signing his new deal, Arteta said: “I am really positive that we’re going to get it done very soon and hopefully in the next few days we can get some news.”

The Spaniard also confirmed that defender Rob Holding, who had reportedly been set to join Newcastle on loan but began Saturday’s match after David Luiz picked up a neck injury, will stay at the club.

“I said to him, change your mind because you’re not going anywhere,” Arteta added. “He stands for every value that we want at the football club.

“He had a really difficult time but he trained and had his dream to play for this football club so now why would I have to let him go? You’re already playing so what else do you want?”
