Arsenal could benefit from potential Real Madrid firesale to seal Mikel Arteta's dream transfer

Arsenal have plenty left to play for this season in the hunt for European qualification and Europa League glory but attention will be cast towards the summer transfer window.

It's been another difficult season for the Gunners, with fans locked out amid the pandemic, and on-field performances have been shaky.

In January, significant outgoings were witnessed in the transfer market as Mikel Arteta looked to trim his squad and deals in that manner are expected once again this summer - with new signings also coming into the fold.

The Gunners have dealt with Real Madrid extensively in recent years and, amid the financial problems of Los Blancos, could take advantage by swooping to benefit from a potential fire sale - and we've highlighted some options.

Martin Odegaard

The Norway international has caught the eye during his loan spell with the Gunners, having joined in the January transfer window, and could be a dream signing for Arteta - who would certainly be keen on the midfielder - to fill that creative void.

Real's stance appears to be that the 22-year-old is not for sale but Odegaard has enjoyed his time in north London and struggled for regular opportunities with Real Madrid in the first half of the campaign, so could push for a transfer or another loan stint at the Emirates Stadium.

Isco

Arsenal have had Dani Ceballos on loan for the last two seasons but, while the Spaniard has been a regular fixture in Arteta's ranks, he has struggled to impress on a number of occasions.

An alternative option in midfield could be Isco, a player who remains highly-rated and is a solid squad option due to his versatility - where he can play centrally or on the flanks in attack.

Reportedly available for a fee of around just £18million this summer, the former Malaga man may also be an alternative option to Odegaard if the Norway captain cannot be secured.

Luka Jovic

Arsenal are likely to be in the hunt for a striker this summer with both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah entering the final 12 months of their deal. The issue though is that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is at his best through the middle, so there doesn't need to be a huge addition.

Luka Jovic has struggled to make an impact at Real Madrid but has performed better during his loan spell with Eintracht Frankfurt. Alongside Aubameyang and Folarin Balogun, he could be a decent option to add to the squad.

Eder Militao

Arsenal's defensive vulnerabilities have remained present season after season and David Luiz's potential departure this summer will reduce the Gunners' experience in this area. While Eder Militao doesn't have lots of years under his belt, he has played an abundance of football at the highest level.

Edu's Brazilian links could be beneficial in the hunt for the defender, who could form a formidable partnership with compatriot Gabriel Magalhaes at the heart of defence.

Marcelo

Injury to Kieran Tierney in recent months has exposed Arsenal's lack of depth down the left side of defence but the Scotland international is very much first choice for the long-term.

While Arsenal may prefer to sign a younger option to be understudy to Tierney, signing a leader for a young defensive line could be a wise move and Marcelo would fit the bill in that aspect.

The concerns would be the fact that he is 32 and Arsenal's record of signing ageing, high-profile names in recent years, namely Luiz and Willian, hasn't gone too well.
