Arsenal have enjoyed a recent upturn in results.
The Gunners endured a torrid start to the season, losing their first three Premier League fixtures whilst failing to score a single goal in the process.
However, Mikel Arteta's men have since turned things around, avoiding defeat in each of their last ten outings, rising up the table as they now sit in fifth place going into the international break.
Summer signing Ben White has started in nine of those matches, with the former Brighton star's influence apparent given Arsenal have kept a clean sheet in each of his last three appearances.
White's impressive performances alongside Gabriel Magalhaes have left fellow centre-back Rob Holding with limited game time this term, and given youngster William Saliba is set to return from his loan with Marseille in the summer it seems likely that Holding could look elsewhere in search of first-team opportunities.
The Englishman, who is valued at £16.2million by Transfermarkt, has previously been linked with Newcastle United, with the 26-year-old admitting that he nearly left the Emirates Stadium earlier this year.
Speaking to The Telegraph back in January, Holding said: "We signed two centre-halves over the summer and I was thinking, ‘am I even going to be involved in this?’
"At 25, I have to focus on playing. I spoke to the manager and said there was a loan opportunity that had come up, that I needed football. After my injury [a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in December 2018] I needed a year to play."
The former Bolton centre-back ended up staying in north London but perhaps a move to St. James' Park makes more sense than ever given Newcastle's new manager, Eddie Howe, reportedly tried to sign him for Bournemouth.
Bolton News reported back in the summer of 2016 that the Cherries were interested in bringing Holding to the Vitality Stadium.
Given the Magpies are 19th in the current standings a January move for the Englishman seems to make sense for all parties.
