Arsenal could be handed £17m windfall as Edu looks to complete Granit Xhaka transfer

Arsenal have been one of the busiest Premier League clubs so far this summer in terms of transfer dealings.

Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga have both arrived at the Emirates Stadium from Benfica and Anderlecht respectively as Mikel Arteta looks to overhaul his squad.

Meanwhile, the Gunners have offloaded three players - Matteo Guendouzi (loan to Marseille), David Luiz (released) and William Saliba (loan to Marseille).

But now, Arsenal could be about to sell their first player of the summer transfer window with Granit Xhaka edging closer to a move away from north London to team up with Jose Mourinho at Roma.

According to Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness, the Rome-based club are now set to 'take that extra step' in order to progress with the deal that has been in the works for weeks now.

football.london understands that Xhaka has already agreed personal terms with Roma, but Arsenal and the Italian outfit have not seen eye-to-eye on a transfer fee.

The report from Italy claims that the Gunners are demanding €20million (£17.1million) for the Switzerland international.

Roma boss Mourinho, who took over the Serie A club following his sacking from Tottenham, has raved about the Arsenal midfielder in the past - and is clearly a huge fan of his.

Speaking in 2019, the former Spurs boss said: "Xhaka is the main man in the entire Arsenal midfield, you can't see it unless I lend you one of my eyes.

"Without him, Arsenal is lost. He is a leader. Remember, mistakes are made by humans."
