Arsenal considering shock free transfer for former Chelsea star

Arsenal are among four Premier League clubs who are considering a summer swoop for former Chelsea captain Gary Cahill.

The 33-year-old defender is due to be a free agent when his Blues contract expires at the end of this month, and he is keen to remain in the English top-flight.

Gunners manager Unai Emery is keen to bolster his defence this summer and there are reports that the former England centre back is among his targets.

But 90min has claimed that London rivals West Ham and Crystal Palace are also keeping tabs on his situation and could make a move soon.

Cahill's former side Aston Villa have also been linked with a move, though the centre back would rather stay in London, where he has been since 2012 when he joined Chelsea.

However his former team-mate John Terry is now assistant manager at Villa Park and could potentially persuade his pal to make the switch.

During his time at Chelsea, Cahill won the Champions League, Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup.

After departing the club, he declared Chelsea’s 2012 Champions League triumph as his finest moment at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “The Champions League in Munich was an amazing night to be part of, to be in the team that enabled Chelsea to win it for the first time was amazing but a very close second for me was the first Premier League I won.

“I have watched this league since I was a kid and I know how hard it is to go out every single week and try to get three points, so to do that consistently throughout the period of a season and to win the trophy is one of the best feelings as well.”
