Arsenal considering Glen Kamara as Ruben Neves alternative after Gunners transfer admission

Arsenal are reportedly interested in re-signing Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara and could make a move for the 25-year-old if they struggle to sign other targets, namely Ruben Neves.

The Finland international spent three years in the Gunners' youth academy but made just one professional appearance for the north London outfit when he featured in a 3-0 League Cup loss to Sheffield Wednesday in 2015.

With chances at the Emirates Stadium limited, he agreed a two-year deal with Dundee before signing a pre-contractual agreement with Rangers in 2019 with whom he just helped to win the Scottish Premiership under the tutelage of former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard.

According to reports from GiveMeSport, his form at Rangers has impressed the Gunners who are interested in bringing him back to north London.

Arsenal could be tempted to make a move for Kamara if they fail in their pursuit of other midfielders on their radar.

Kamara had mixed feelings about leaving Arsenal as he revealed to The Herald in 2019 upon signing for Rangers, and admitted that leaving the Gunners for Scotland was a ‘step back’ in his career.

"I had to leave Arsenal and I guess I took a step back by going from there to Dundee," Kamara said.

"Obviously, no one wants to leave a club like Arsenal, whether you support them or not. It was tough, but going to Dundee was amazing for me."

As backed up by his performances of late, Kamara said he made the right decision to move to Scotland because he had the chance to develop his craft.

"I'd say the decision to come to Scotland has definitely paid off," he added.

"I wasn't too sure about Dundee at first, but it became a revelation there and I learned a lot about the game.

"I think the experiences at Dundee were good for my mentality. You are not winning as much as you would like and things like that definitely toughen you up.

"As I said, leaving Arsenal was hard, but sometimes you have to take a step back to make another one forward."

It will be interesting to see if the Gunners act on their interest, but for now at least, Kamara can focus on helping his current club win successive domestic titles.
