Pablo Mari is set to make his Arsenal debut as the Gunners take on Portsmouth in the FA Cup fifth round.
The Brazilian centre-back joined from Flamengo on loan at the end of January but had previously been confined to the Under-23s, for whom he played 45 minutes against Manchester City on Friday night.
Reiss Nelson is also added to the starting lineup with Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe on the bench to offer support should the tie against League One opposition go against the Gunners.
Meanwhile Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have been left behind by Arteta.
Arsenal are without left-backs Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac (both shoulder) whilst Cedric Soares (knee) is also unavailable.
Shkodran Mustafi resumed training over the weekend after limping out of the defeat to Olympiacos on Thursday.
Arteta experienced the unique challenges that come with travelling to Fratton Park during his playing career and will have warned his players what to expect: "It will be and it is going to be tough. I will try to explain to them how it is going to be.
"I played there I think it was 10 years ago and I have some memories. They have some incredible players.
"It is great. I think it is part of the English culture and a very special essence in those games. It is great to be part of it."
