Arsenal confirmed XI vs Olympiacos: Bernd Leno and Matteo Guendouzi start

Mikel Arteta has struck a notable change from previous Arsenal head coaches by starting Bernd Leno in goal for his side's Europa League round of 32 first leg tie with Olympiacos.

Previous Arsenal head coaches have usually used the cup competitions to blood their reserve goalkeeper, currently Emiliano Martinez, but Arteta has named first-choice goalkeeper Leno in a strong side that also includes starts for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

Matteo Guendouzi has also returned to the side after being dropped from the squad that won 4-0 against Newcastle United on Sunday.

Mesut Ozil did not travel to the game for personal reasons whilst Cedric Soares (hamstring) and Kieran Tierney (shoulder) are not expected to return to training until later this month.

Mikel Arteta on Pablo Mari's progress

With Arsenal seven points off fourth in the Premier League the Europa League may well represent their best route back into the Champions League but with four rounds between them and the final Arteta refuses to do any more than "go game-by-game.

"Every year, every competition is completely different, you play different opponents so you cannot compare what you did last year with this year. The context is different but the objective is still the same one.

"A club like us has to try to win every competition that we are involved in. That's the mindset that we are playing this game and this competition with.

"Obviously it's my first game in Europe managing the club. I've been watching them a lot and they're a team that are so used to dominating domestically and the style of play that they have, they feel really comfortable with that type of game.

"When you travel to Europe, the type of games are completely different to the Premier League and we have to adapt and be able to play the type of game that tomorrow's opponents require and that's what we've been working on."

Arsenal XI: Leno; Mustafi, Sokratis, Luiz, Saka; Guendouzi, Xhaka; Martinelli, Willock, Aubameyang; Lacazette
