Arsenal confirmed XI vs Burnley: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang returns with Nicolas Pepe dropped

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has returned to the Arsenal XI after completing his three match ban, with Nicolas Pepe making way for the club captain in Mikel Arteta’s side to take on Burnley.

Gabriel Martinelli retains his place with Lucas Torreira coming out of the side. Matteo Guendouzi starts in midfield alongside Granit Xhaka.

David Luiz has also returned to the Arsenal squad after serving his suspension following his red card against Chelsea. He partners Shkodran Mustafi in the Gunners’ defence with Hector Bellerin and Bukayo Saka at full-back.

Aubameyang's availability will be a welcome boon for Arteta. The Gabon striker averages a goal every 51 minutes against Sean Dyche’s side; among players who have played 300 minutes against an opponent only Luis Suarez against Norwich has a better record with a goal every 45 minutes.

Mikel Arteta: We need to be ready for a battle

Indeed for all the difficulties Arsenal have had against Burnley in recent years on the pitch the results have proven impressive with 10 straight wins against the Clarets.

Arteta knows exactly what to expect at Turf Moor, saying in his pre-match press conference: "What they do, they do it really, really well and they're specialists at that.

"The type of game that they want to play makes it really difficult for the opponent, so we need to be ready for a battle, be clever and take the game the way we want.

"We will go there with complete focus and energy and a very clear plan, because if not, they are very hard to deal with."

Arsenal XI: Leno; Bellerin, Sokratis, Luiz, Saka; Torreira, Xhaka; Pepe, Ozil, Aubameyang; Lacazette
