Arsenal confirm winter break training camp as Mikel Arteta eyes 'change of routine'

Arsenal will utilise the second half of the forthcoming winter break by heading to a warm-weather training camp in Dubai.

The club have confirmed the first-team squad will fly out to the Middle East on Friday February 7, and return the following Tuesday (11th).

A statement on the official Arsenal website said: " Mikel Arteta will use the training camp to bring the squad together in a warmer climate as part of preparations for the fixture against Newcastle United on February 16, the Europa League clash against Olympiacos four days later and the run-in that follows."

The Gunners play Burnley on February 2, allowing squad members a few days of down time before reporting back for duty. ahead of the trip to the Arab city.

Boss Mikel Arteta said: “As we prepare for several key fixtures, we are looking forward to a change of routine with some warm-weather training.

"Dubai is a fantastic place and the football facilities there are first class.

"It will do us good to experience a change of environment before we enter a crucial part of the season.”

Arsenal look set to have a congested end of season run-in, as they compete in three competitions, and could play up to 27 matches between their return to action and May.

Alongside the Premier and Europa Leagues, the Gunners also have the FA Cup to contend with, after progressing to the fifth round on Monday.

Goals from Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah helped seal a 2-1 win over Bournemouth, setting Arsenal up for a trip to League One side Portsmouth in the next round.

The clash with Pompey is scheduled for March 5, between important domestic fixtures against Arteta's former club Man City, and West Ham.

It is the first season a winter break has been implemented in the Premier League, but has already caused debate following recent comments from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds' boss has been a keen advocate of a break, but hit out at the FA over the scheduling of Liverpool's FA Cup fourth round replay with Shrewsbury in the middle of the fortnight's rest.

The FA are stressing that Liverpool are still getting an 11-day rest they would not have previously received, but Klopp has stated he will field a team of youngsters for the tie in protest.
