Arsenal confirm new signing as Freddie Ljungberg says goodbye

Ljungberg leaves Arsenal

Freddie Ljungberg will leave his role as Mikel Arteta's assistant manager, Arsenal have confirmed this afternoon [August 22].

Joining the Gunners as a player in 1998, the Swede was crucial to the success under Arsene Wenger, helping the side win two Premier League titles, three FA Cups and a Charity Shield before leaving in 2007.

Following his retirement, he returned to north London to coach Arsenal's Under-15s in 2016 and after a brief spell at Wolfsburg, took charge of the Under-23s in 2018. That year, he led them to a second-place finish the Premier League 2, four points behind winners, Everton.

Becoming one Unai Emery's first-team coaches in the summer of 2019, Ljungberg took the reins when the Spaniard was eventually sacked in November. He took charge of six games before Mikel Arteta's appointment, after which, he stayed on as a first-team assistant coach.

Arsenal confirm Salah-Eddine deal

Arsenal have confirmed that Salah-Eddine has joined the club on a free transfer after his departure from Dutch side Feyenoord earlier this year.

The 17-year-old midfielder, known as 'Salah' will join the Gunners'

Professional Development Phase for the 2020/21 season, and has already trained with his new teammates.

Salah is the latest of the Arsenal academy's recent influx of signings which include George Lewis, Tim Akinola and Jonathan Dinzeyi.
