Arsenal confirm injury blow ahead of Norwich as Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes return

Arsenal have announced that midfielder Mohamed Elneny is set to be out for two to three weeks after suffering an injury.

The Egyptian, who travelled with his nation during the international break, was confirmed have picked up an injury in his left hamstring and is now aiming to be back in full training in “two to three weeks” a statement from the club announced.

The news is a blow to Arsenal, who already see their midfield options depleted with Granit Xhaka suspended following his red card against Manchester City and Thomas Partey just finding his way back to full fitness.

On the topic of the Ghanaian, however, he could be back sooner than anticipated having recovered from the ankle injury he suffered in pre-season.

The 28-year-old has yet to appear for the Gunners in a competitive fixture this season but is now “back in full training and available for selection.”

That is also the case for Brazilian centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, who had been suffering with a knee injury.

The former Lille man has also not appeared for the Gunners this season but did make his return to action last month as he played 45 minutes for the Arsenal U23s against Tottenham.

He could be partnered by Ben White in the heart of the Arsenal defence against Norwich this weekend. The defender, signed from Brighton & Hove Albion, has overseen a period of self-isolation, having tested positive for Covid-19, but is eligible to make his return.

Finally, Eddie Nketiah is also back in contention as the Gunners host the Canaries. The striker has returned from an ankle injury and could be part of the squad at the Emirates Stadium after seeing a summer move fail to come to fruition.

He has not played a minute of Premier League action since the 1-0 defeat to Everton in north London in mid-April.
