Arsenal confirm free transfer of former-Tottenham Hotspur defender Jonathan Dinzeyi

Free agent, Jonathan Dinzeyi has signed for Arsenal on a professional contract and is expected to join the Under-23s side ahead of the 2020/21 season.

The 20-year-old was developed by Tottenham Hotspur but left upon the expiration of his contract this summer.

Dinzeyi is the latest addition to the Arsenal academy which has been on a tear recently in regards to incoming signings. George Lewis signalled their first foray into the market last week before central midfielders Tim Akinola and Salah-Eddine joined later in the week.

The arrival of these four players will come as an encouraging sign for the turnover of the Under-23s squad for Steve Bould.

Arsenal Premier League fixture list

Now ready for first team football, key players from last season, Matt Smith [Swindon Town], Zech Medley [Gillingham], Trae Coyle [Gillingham], Zak Swanson [MVV Maastricht] and Konstantinos Mavropanos [Stuttgart] were loaned out for the upcoming season, leaving room for new signings to impress.

Dinzeyi himself is a right-footed centre-back who made 22 appearances in the Premier League 2 for Spurs between 2017 and 2020 before his release in the summer. He first impressed for the north London's Under-18s side in the 2016/17 when he made 19 appearances, followed by a further 11 in the 2017/18 season.

The 20-year-old has also been capped for England at Under-18 level, making four appearances for the young Three Lions side in 2016.

Medley and Mavropanos' temporary departures in particular will help in regard to the chances Dinzeyi may get under Bould during the 2020/21 campaign but he will still have Mark McGuinness, Harry Clarke and Dan Ballard to contend with should they stay at the club.

Ballard was loaned to Swindon Town last season and was involved in first team training after the restart last season alongside Clarke which may make loan moves more likely for them, though nothing has been confirmed in regards to them yet.

The 20 year-old is represented by Elite Project Group who also represent Arsenal youngsters Reiss Nelson, Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah.
