Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba looks set to join Arsenal after the two clubs reportedly reached an agreement for the youngster.
The Gunners are believed to have offered £27million for the 18-year-old who will need to complete his medical before the deal can be officially announced.
However, reports have claimed Saliba will return to France where he will continue his development with parent club, Saint-Etienne .
North London rivals, Tottenham , are also thought to be keen on landing the teenager.
However, Arsenal appear to have won the race for his signature, with Football.London saying they're 'confident' the deal is done.
Unai Emery added striker Gabriel Martinelli to his squad earlier this month, and the Brazilian teen opened his account for the club in their 3-0 pre-season victory over Colorado Rapids last Tuesday.
The club's transfer activity could continue with the signing of Real Madrid midfielder, Dani Ceballos , who has been linked with a loan switch to the Gunners.
Ceballos, who represented Spain at U-21 level, has not travelled with Madrid on their tour of the United States as he is currently on holiday.
Arsenal and Madrid are due to meet for a pre-season fixture in Washington DC next week.
Elsewhere, the Gunners have shown persistence in their quest to strengthen the squad which failed to achieve Champions League qualification for the upcoming season, restricting their transfer budget.
They have seen two bids for Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney rejected, but remain optimistic they can secure their man for around £25 million.
However, Arsenal's pursuit of Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha could prove one step too far with the Ivorian's valuation appearing too high.
