Arsenal complete summer signing as Mikel Arteta strengthens in key position

Arsenal have completed the signing of Matt Turner subject to a work permit and medical in the summer, football.london can confirm.

The two clubs have agreed a deal on an initial £4.5million fee leading to £7.5million with further bonuses.

New England Revolution head coach Bruce Arena had recently confirmed that a deal was close.

“As speculated, there’s a chance we could lose Matt Turner,” Arena said.

“If things work out the right way we will lose him in the summer."

Now, football.london can confirm that Turner has agreed to a four-year contract with the club, who also have the option to extend for a further year.

Turner has already won 13 international caps with the USA and will certainly relish the challenge of being Aaron Ramsdale's understudy when Bernd Leno leaves the club as expected.

The German started the season as No.1, but has since dropped down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium following an impressive start to Ramsdale's Gunners career.

As a result of his game time struggles, and with a World Cup just around the corner, there have been rumours that the north Londoners may allow the former Bayer Leverkusen man to continue his push to make Hansi Flick's squad elsewhere.

Newcastle were amongst the clubs interested but Leno will remain with Arsenal until the summer as the Gunners' established No.2, hoping to displace Ramsdale.
