Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta closes door on Kieran Tierney exit amid Leicester transfer speculation

Mikel Arteta insists left-back Kieran Tierney will not be leaving Arsenal this summer after a string of fine performances following the Premier League restart.

The Scot struggled for form and fitness after making a £25million move from Celtic last summer and admitted he felt under pressure to hit the ground running following the coronavirus pandemic.

The defender has certainly impressed, however, becoming a regular feature in Arteta's starting line-up and with the Gunners unbeaten in four games, Tierney looks certain to retain his place for Sunday's north London derby.

It has been suggested that Leicester City could move for the 23-year-old as a replacement for Ben Chilwell, who has been strongly linked with Chelsea.

But the Spaniard has shut down speculation regarding the left-back, heaping praise on Tierney's all-around character since his arrival at the club.

“He’s not going anywhere,” Arteta said. “I really like him.

“I’m very impressed him. Everybody loves him at the club and he earns that every single day with the way he treats people, the way he works and the energy he brings to the place.

“And then with his performances, I am delighted. He has adapted really well, he is a player that gives you everything in every session and every game. And the quality he has added as well.

“He’s still so young, he has things to improve obviously but he’s been a great addition to the team.”
