Arsenal chiefs Raul Sanllehi and Edu make decision about Unai Emery's future amid fan fury

Unai Emery is unlikely to be sacked after Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Southampton, according to reports.

The Gunners head coach faces huge pressure after failing to beat Ralph Hassenhuttl's struggling side at the Emirates on Saturday, a result which leaves Arsenal seventh in the table and eight points adrift of the top four.

But according to The Independent, the Arsenal board met over the international break to discuss Emery’s future at the club and decided to give Emery a month to save his job.

Arsenal take on Norwich, Brighton and West Ham in the next three Premier League fixtures, games which are seen as winnable by head of football Raul Sanllehi and technical director Edu.

And a decision over Emery's future will likely be made after those block of games.

After the 2-0 defeat to Leicester before the international break, Sanllehi and managing director Vinai Venkatesham handed Emery a public vote of confidence.

Speaking to club staff in a meeting, the pair said: "We are as disappointed as everyone else with both our results and performances at this stage of the season.

"We share the frustration with our fans, Unai, players and all our staff as they are not at the level we want or expect. Things need to improve to meet our objectives for the season, and we firmly believe Unai is the right man for the job, together with the backroom team we have in place."

Sanllehi and Venkatesham added: "We are all working intensively behind the scenes to turn things around and are confident we will.

"We never take our fantastic support for granted. We hope we can all stick together and get behind the team in this challenging period, as together we are stronger."

After the Southampton game, Emery admitted that he understands the frustration from supporters.

He said: “I understand the supporters. They are now frustrated, disappointed and angry. The players feel the same.

“My job is to work, analyse and find a solution for how we can improve. I know the key is here to take confidence, to achieve the points, the good performances at home and then to take that away.

“The key is here with our supporters. I know that and the players also know that.

“Our target was to win this evening but above all, to connect. We didn't do that.

“We lost a very big opportunity and now we will analyse and work on a solution for the next matches.”
