Arsenal chiefs eye two candidates to replace Unai Emery - as well as interesting plan C

Arsenal chiefs have reportedly begun the process of considering potential replacements for Unai Emery following a poor run of form.

Arsenal are currently without a win in six matches in all competitions - their worst run since 1998.

And with Arsenal eight points off fourth-placed Chelsea in the league after just 13 games it seems the board are considering their options despite given reassurance to Emery in private.

The Telegraph claim the north London side have two standout candidates at present - former Juventus boss Max Allegri and Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Those two names are among other candidates technical director Edu and head of football Raul Sanllehi are considering making a move for.

However, should the pair fail to prise Nuno away from Wolves mid-season or Allegri rejects them and they can’t find another experienced manager now, they have a backup plan.

That would likely involve assistant coach Freddie Ljunberg making the step up to the manager’s seat on a temporary basis.

The former Gunners winger would likely prove a popular appointment with fans as supporters continue to grow frustrated with Emery.

Emery faces a crucial clash against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday, before travelling to Norwich on Sunday.

Defeats in either of those could push the former Sevilla boss closer towards the exit door.

But it seems Emery is not concerned for now about other candidates being discussed in the media amid growing uncertainty over his future.

"My future is today and tomorrow,” Emery said when asked if links with other managers concerns him.

“My job is to prepare the match tomorrow, to look only at the match tomorrow.”

He also feels he still has the support of his players following a difficult few months.

"Yes of course. They show that,” he responded when asked if the players believe in him.
