Arsenal chiefs '100 per cent' behind under-fire Unai Emery after 'improved' display at Leicester

Unai Emery has been given the backing of the Arsenal board - with the Gunners chiefs seeing an improvement in the side's performances.

The Gunners stretched their winless run in the Premier League to over a month as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Leicester on Saturday evening - with Jamie Vardy and James Maddison downing the north London outfit.

The loss condemned the Gunners to their worst start to a season since 1982.

Emery has overseen five matches without a win, with their last win coming against Vitoria in the Europa League on October 24, with their last Premier League three points coming in a narrow 1-0 victory over Bournemouth on October 6.

Pressure has therefore grown on the Spaniard, who took over from Arsene Wenger at the beginning of the last season.

But according to the Athletic, there are absolutely no plans to get rid of Emery, with Arsenal's hierarchy "100 per cent" behind the manager.

Board members technical director Edu and Head of Football Raul Sanllehi were both in situ at the King Power Stadium to watch the latest embarrassing result.

But despite being completely outplayed by the Foxes, they were happy to report "clear signs of improved performance" and are on the "right path" to the rest of the Arsenal top brass.

It is reported that the duo, plus owner Stan Kroenke, his son Josh and managing director Vinai Venkatesham, are all "firmly on the same page."

Arsenal are currently sixth in the table, behind Sheffield United on goal difference, and eight points adrift of the top four - with Manchester City boasting a game in hand.

But the chiefs apparently think there is time to turn the season around, with the January transfer window on the horizon, with at least some of the blame pointed at the VAR system.

Emery, who still has a year left on his current contract, issued a defiant statement over his future after the defeat to Leicester.

"We need time and patience. We have changed a lot of players and we have a lot of young players," he told Sky Sports.

"We are going to achieve. We have had a lot of circumstances that haven't helped but with consistency, we can do it."

Asked if he will get the time from the board, Emery added: "The most important thing is to be calm but step up in our intensity and our work."
