Arsenal chief 'visits Arsene Wenger'
Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants to return to the Emirates Stadium before a planned tribute to him next year, according to the Mail on Sunday (via talkSPORT ).
The Gunners' chief executive Vinai Venkatesham has visited Wenger to inform him that he is always welcome, with rumours over a tribute to the legendary former boss in 2021.
This is despite some reports suggesting that the Frenchman was hurt by the way his 22-year spell with the north London-based club ended.
However, this report is suggesting that Wenger is set to return to the Emirates prior to the potential tribute next year.
Partey injury update
Mikel Arteta has admitted that Thomas Partey suffered a recurrence to the same thigh injury in Arsenal's 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.
Partey was a doubt going into the game, but Arteta named the Ghana midfielder in his starting line-up but has now confirmed his new signing has hurt the same thigh that was aggravating him beforehand.
The Gunners boss said: “We need to score goals. It’s unsustainable. We need to put the goals in the net urgently.
“Thomas was in a lot of pain. It is in the same area. I was trying to push him because I don’t think he realised the gravity of the situation."
Xhaka and Partey slammed
Alex Scott and Graeme Souness have criticised Arsenal duo Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey for their roles in Harry Kane's goal for Spurs in the 2-0 defeat on Sunday.
Partey limped over to the dugouts when the Gunners had possession, which left a huge gap in midfield - where Giovani Lo Celso picked up the ball before starting the counter-attack, where Kane eventually fired past Bernd Leno.
As for Xhaka, he was the man who looked as if he was marking Lo Celso, but got lured into going forward.
Souness said this on Partey: “Leaders don’t allow that to happen on a football field. If he’s injured, he’s injured, he’s screaming at people telling them he’s injured."
