Arsenal chief Edu singles out top transfer priority heading into January window

Arsenal technical director Edu has revealed the club’s top transfer priority ahead of the January window.

The Gunners are expected to act fast in next month’s transfer window after their dismal start to the season which has left them all the way down in 15th place in the Premier League.

Arsenal have scored just twice in their last eight league matches, picking up a total of four points.

The lack of creativity from Mikel Arteta’s midfield has been highlighted as an issue, especially given Mesut Ozil’s axing.

And during the Arsenal fans’ forum on Tuesday evening, Edu admitted he knew exactly where he would be looking to strengthen the squad.

“It’s quite clear what we need,” the Brazilian said. “We need a player with creativity in the middle, we don’t have that in the squad right now.”

Edu opened up by addressing the club’s poor form and talk of a potential rift between Arteta and his players.

“I try to be as open as possible,” Edu stated. “I like to hear from you.

“As a Brazilian, I’m very open. I’m not scared to say things. We’re are not comfortable in this situation we’re in.

“Every single club has problems. The stories about a split between the players and Arteta are not true. Stories about players not believing and not trusting Mikel are not true.’

Meanwhile, chief executive Vinai Venkatesham admitted that the whole club was disappointed with the current situation they found themselves in, but gave Arteta his backing to turn things around.

“We made another significant investment, following on from significant investments over the last two summers, to get this club back to competing where we want to be,” Venkatesham said.

“Behind the scenes, everybody is disappointed, but they’re also being quite measured. We working extremely hard.

“Everyone is sticking together to turn it around. We absolutely do believe results will come. We’re not ignoring what we’re seeing on the pitch.”
