Arsenal chief Edu responds to Folarin Balogun's pointed message to Mikel Arteta

Arsenal chief Edu has appeared to give Folarin Balogun a pat on the back by acknowledging his brilliance on social media.

The young striker is highly-though of in north London but is in danger of walking away from the Emirates.

Balogun only has six months remaining on his current deal and is yet to pen a new contract.

He has found opportunities hard to come by despite being a star for the club's youth sides.

Balogun was left out of the Arsenal side to play Southampton which appeared to be a cause of frustration.

In the aftermath of his side's loss he posted a video on social media of him scoring a hat-trick in Arsenal U23s' 5-0 win over Brighton on Friday.

Edu didn't let the opportunity pass and posted a series of emojis praising the 19-year-old's performance.

He eluded to him being a "top baller" as the club look to convince him to stay put.

Mikel Arteta has previously been quizzed on the forward who is confident a fruitful future would lie ahead at Arsenal.

He previously said: "If anything – regarding his contractual situation with the club – I just want to convince him that he has a future at the club, not send him the opposite message.

"Before he wasn’t training with the first team, we changed that and he’s been training with us a lot.

"He’s improving every single day, he’s showing a real hunger and decided to be with us.

"We’re trying to get something done because we want him to stay and we have to go step-by-step.

"I think he’s made some big steps in the last few months, where he wasn’t even training and then he had a few good games for us.

"So the steps are there in every way and we want to try to keep him."
