Clubs in the Premier League are aiming to return to action from June 8.
All professional football across England has been suspended indefinitely because of the severity of the coronavirus pandemic.
But the Premier League once again reaffirmed their position that they are hoping to finish the current season when it is deemed safe to do so.
And now a report in the Mirror claims that the June date is seen as the best case scenario for games to resume.
Clubs have also been told that they may be able to start training again from May 18, although this depends on the government’s social distancing measures.
The Mirror also reports that the government has told football chiefs that it will not be viewed as a special case.
And that coronavirus testing of players and staff must also be introduced before any action can return, with strict guidelines also being introduced for players when they return to training.
Players could turn up in their cars already changed into their kits to try and limit the chances of infection at training grounds.
The Premier League are set to keep a close eye on how the Bundesliga is preparing to restart their fixtures.
Players in Germany have returned to training in the hope that games can be played in May without spectators, a move that is likely to be repeated in England.
