Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham fans give verdict on Premier League Covid passports

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham supporters’ groups have given their blessing to the use of Covid passports in the bid to secure full capacity at Premier League stadiums next season.

The government's Culture Secretary Michael Gove suggested that Covid passes may be a necessity for stadiums that hold a capacity above 20,000 people, due to the risk of spread on public transport services as people travel to and from the matches.

The passes show that a person has had a negative test, two vaccinations or natural immunity against the virus and are being demoed at multiple Euro 2020 matches this summer.

Still, a conclusion of the review of the scheme doesn't appear to be imminent with test events scheduled in mid-July, just a month before the start of the new Premier League season.

Therefore, football fans up and down the country have given their full backing for the use of the passes in order to secure full houses next season in a bid to keep stadiums open throughout the whole season, with the winter surge in cases a worry for many.

Arsenal have declared their support for the scheme, hoping that their opening day fixture at Brentford will be allowed to hold the Gunners' away fans.

"The Arsenal Supporters’ Trust would support a well-managed Covid Pass system," a trust spokesman told Sportsmail. "It must cater for those who do not have access or cannot take the vaccine.

"But in principle, we fully support the initiative to get the grounds full from the first day of the season."

The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust have echoed Arsenal's support of the scheme.

"The most important thing is the health, safety and well-being of supporters, but within that, any scheme that gets supporters back in is a good idea," said Dan Silver from Chelsea Supporters’ Trust, via Sportsmail. "Our fans are desperate to get back, like many others. Schemes like this have our full support."

Tottenham's Supporters' Trust, who have completed a survey of fans' feelings towards returning to full capacity stadiums, have suggested that their followers will predominantly be comfortable returning to full houses next season.

"I think most fans would be realistic and they would need information about what is being asked and why?" Trust member Katrina Law stated. "Communication is a massive thing. Engaging with supporter groups to get their support and confidence will be important."
