Arsenal 'chase' Manchester United player Jesse Lingard after impressive West Ham loan

Arsenal are reportedly plotting a move for Jesse Lingard this summer after his excellent form on loan at West Ham.

The Manchester United academy graduate joined the Hammers on loan in January and his six goals and three assists in eight games have attracted interest from the Gunners.

Lingard's return to the spotlight earned him an England recall last month and it seems likely that he will leave Manchester United permanently this summer for regular first-team minutes.

West Ham are keen to extend his stay at the London Stadium but the Daily Star have claimed that Lingard is also interesting Arsenal.

The 28-year-old is seen as a capable replacement for Martin Odegaard, who will return to Real Madrid at the end of the season.

Lingard has one year on his current United contract which leaves them in a good position to negotiate a fee upwards of £20million.

Speaking last month, Moyes claimed that a permanent deal for Lingard would be discussed during the summer: "We have not thought about that really, we have not taken it any further at the moment.

"We have him on loan and he is doing a good job for us just now.

"I think we will discuss that and probably look at it at the end of the season but it is not something that we have taken any further than the situation we are in just now."

Lingard himself has hinted that first-team football is his priority after return to the England fold.

"Yeah, I'm really pleased," Lingard said after winning Man of the Match against San Marino.

"As I said, I just really wanted regular football and, you know, when I play week in, week out it builds confidence.

"I've been scoring goals and assisting to help my team - it's been amazing. Like I say, I just want to carry on that run of form now."
