Arsenal can seal summer transfer to solve problem position and save £20m

Arsenal are still interested in Borussia Dortmund star Julian Brandt, according to reports in Germany.

The Gunners are in the market for a new midfielder this summer with loan star Martin Odegaard looking unlikely to stick around despite Edu and Mikel Arteta's best efforts.

Arsenal would like to keep Odegaard beyond this season, but with Real Madrid seeing him as a 'fundamental piece' of their future, it's unlikely he will be allowed to leave permanently.

That could lead the Gunners elsewhere, and there is already talk today that they will push ahead with a move for Norwich City star Emiliano Buendia, who has been a target since last summer.

Though, Buendia is not the only option on the table, with Borussia Dortmund star Brandt also potentially available, according to reports in Germany.

Kicker report Brandt could be available at the right price and that Arsenal continue to hold an interest in the 25-year-old ahead of this summer.

The Dortmund star became an option in January, but Arsenal wound up signing Odegaard on loan instead.

The north London club could now circle back for the 35-time Germany international, and he could come significantly cheaper than the £35million-£40million mooted for Buendia.

According to reports, Brandt could be available for around £21.5million, or at least that was the figure quoted in January, and he is not going to be any cheaper this summer given he has a contract at Dortmund until 2024.

Brandt has made 44 appearances for Dortmund across all competitions this season, including 30 in the Bundesliga where Edin Terzic's men are likely to finish third.
