Arsenal can repeat Cesc Fabregas transfer trick as links to Barcelona wonderkid surface

Arsenal are in the midst of a hectic summer rebuild as technical director Edu attempts to freshen up an underperforming squad that has finished ninth in each of the last two Premier League campaigns.

The Brazilian has already offloaded ill-disciplined French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi to Marseille before receiving a reported £25million from Newcastle United for Hale End graduate Joe Willock.

The Gunners have also brought in some additional reinforcements to the squad, signing English centre-half Ben White, talented Belgian midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga and Portuguese fullback Nuno Tavares for a combined £76million.

And they don't appear to be done yet as football.london understands that they are still keen to bring in a goalkeeper to challenge current No.1 Bernd Leno and an attacking midfielder to help ease the creative burden on Emile Smith Rowe before the transfer window slams shut at the end of this month.

Despite already bringing in the aforementioned Lokonga, the north Londoners continue to be linked with another central-midfielder, with Barcelona starlet Ilaix Moriba the latest to be mooted as a potential signing according to 90Min.

Moriba has previously been linked with Chelsea and Manchester City but a move to Arsenal may make sense for the teenager given they have previously developed young talents from Barca's La Masia academy.

The Gunners signed 16-year-old Cesc Fabregas back in 2003 and Moriba may decide that following in his compatriot's path is the most sensible move for his development as he is more likely to get game time at the Emirates Stadium.

Furthermore, despite his undeniable talent Moriba would likely command a relatively modest fee as he has less than 12 months remaining on his current deal at the Nou Camp.

The 18-year-old has been watched by a host of Europe's elite ever since he scored a sublime hat-trick against the Real Madrid Under-19 side, including a stunning effort from the halfway line, a feat even more impressive considering he was just 15-year-old at the time
