Arsenal can repeat Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain transfer trick with Eddie Nketiah amid Palace interest

Arsenal are set for a busy summer transfer window as manager Mikel Arteta looks to transform an underperforming side into top four contenders in the next few months.

football.london understands that the Gunners are interested in making at least four more signings this summer, including a goalkeeper, a defender and two midfielders - having already announced the transfer of Portuguese left-back Nuno Taveres for £7million on Saturday.

The north London club are also set to announce the signing of Belgian midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga in the coming days, with the 21-year-old set for a move that could rise to £16million from Vincent Kompany's Anderlecht side.

However, before they can continue their summer spending spree they may have to offload several players from an already bloated squad.

There are a number of Arsenal players who could be set to leave the club this summer, with versatile Hale End graduate Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira both linked with moves away from the Emirates.

Another member of the squad who has been linked away is English under-21 international Eddie Nketiah, who has just 12 months left on his current deal with the club.

Arsenal have been notoriously bad at recouping money for their unwanted assets but one sale that they got right was the departure of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool in the summer of 2017.

The pacey winger turned midfielder also has just one year left to run on his contract but the England international had garnered interest from Chelsea, as well as the Reds, sparking a bidding war that resulted in Jurgen Klopp's side paying £35million, plus add-ons, for his services.

The Gunners will hope they can repeat this process with Nketiah this summer after The Sun reported that newly-appointed Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira is interested in the promising centre-forward - who has also been linked to Watford and Brighton this summer.

If the three Premier League sides all register a substantial interest in the 22-year-old then Arsenal may be able to repeat the Oxlade-Chamberlain sale and secure a hefty fee despite his current contract situation.
