Arsenal can recreate Invincibles pair after dream midfielder signing's Thomas Partey comment

Arsenal added strength in depth this season by splashing over £130m on six players during the summer transfer window.

Despite signing Belgian midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht, the Gunners have still looked short in the middle of the park.

This was made even worse when it was announced that Granit Xhaka would be ruled out for six months due to a knee injury.

However Arsenal fans were given a glimpse of a potential dream replacement on Tuesday evening as AFTV regular Kelechi Anyikude pleaded with Wilfried Ndidi to join the club in which he replied: “You have (Thomas) Partey, he’s a great player.’

Despite the similarities in playing styles, Thomas Partey and Wilfried Ndidi would be a dream pivot partnership that would work a treat in a midfield three.

It would certainly create a midfield dominance which we haven’t seen in a Gunners squad since the invincibles when Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva created fear amongst the opposition before the match even kicked off.

And a similar feeling would be created if Partey and Ndidi were to line up together.

Mikel Arteta has opted for a 4-3-2-1 as his preferred formation this season and this would fit perfectly for a pivot between the two players.

The only negative would be down to the lack of creativity that they possess but this responsibility can be placed on Emile Smith Rowe or Martin Odegaard who would play on the top of the triangle.

Whilst a transfer in the short term certainly seems unlikely due to the current rivalry in fighting for a European position between Arsenal and Leicester, it shouldn’t be a deal that is considered impossible.

Arsenal pushed hard with a move for another Leicester star, James Maddison in the summer transfer window which was a real possibility due to the Englishman’s desire to switch to the North London side.

The deal didn’t materialise as Arsenal opted to sign Odegaard for a cheaper price instead.

This just shows that despite the Gunners’ underwhelming league finishes in recent years this hasn’t affected the temptation of joining the North London club.

The signing of Ndidi would undoubtedly put Arsenal back in Champions League contention but it is an acquisition that may have to wait until the future.
