Arsenal can finally sign their own Luis Suarez with £18m Luka Jovic transfer

Arsenal are likely to be on the lookout for a new striker this summer.

Alexandre Lacazette is in the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium and football.london understands that the former Lyon striker will leave at the end of this season, with Atletico Madrid and Juventus having been linked with a move in recent times.

Manager Mikel Arteta did rule out a January exit for the French striker, but will need to replace the frontman come the summer.

One player who has been linked with a move to north London, more than once, has been Serbian striker Luka Jovic, who has struggled to establish himself at Real Madrid since a £54million move from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019.

Jovic has only started six La Liga games since joining Los Blancos, and even went back on loan to Frankfurt for the second half of last season.

Arsenal are once again being linked with a cut-price £18million move for the big Serbian forward, who has been likened to Luis Suarez in the past.

Arsenal have a history with Suarez, famously making a bid of £40million and £1 to Liverpool to sign him.

Serbia coach Mladen Krstajic previously said of Jovic, as quoted by the Bundesliga website : “He’s a classic goal-getter with great control of the ball and a good understanding of the game. I’d probably compare him to Luis Suarez.

“He’s courageous and dangerous at any moment because he’s always lying in wait for his chance or any inattention from the opponent.

"He sometimes appears impassive or lacklustre, but that’s even more deceptive for defenders and makes him even more of a threat.”

Jovic was asked about his future in Spain over the summer transfer window and insisted he "didn't arrive at Real Madrid by accident".

He told Informer : "I haven’t spoken with the new coach [Carlo] Ancelotti about my situation.

"He has started preparing and I am giving everything I can in every moment, trying to impose myself and to be best prepared as possible for the new season.

"I try to give a positive impression and show what is my best. Many things have happened in recent years.

"I am sure that I could have been better, but I want everything to turn out well in the end. I didn’t arrive at Real Madrid by accident."
