Arsenal boss Unai Emery insists Alexandre Lacazette injury is 'not important' after scare against Lyon

Arsenal are confident Alexandre Lacazette’s ankle injury is not serious.

Lacazette lasted just 12 minutes in Sunday’s Emirates Cup clash against Lyon, replaced after rolling his ankle early on in the contest.

The France international left the Emirates wearing a protective boot on his right foot – but Unai Emery has calmed fears over the striker’s fitness just two weeks before the start of the new Premier League season.

"We are thinking it's not important, he decided with the doctor and with me that it is better to take no more risk,” Emery said in post-match press conference.

“He tried to continue playing but I think it was better in the pre-season to take patience. The doctor said to me he is going to check tomorrow but the thinking is that it is not important.”

Arsenal begin their campaign away to Newcastle on Sunday 11 August – with the club hoping to have an addition to their front line in Nicolas Pepe in place before then.
