Arsenal boss Unai Emery delivers Mesut Ozil verdict as top four battle hots up

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has praised the impact of Mesut Ozil as their bid for the Premier League top four hots up.

Ozil has been in and out of Emery's plans but started in Monday's win against Newcastle and impressed.

It was the first time the German has started back to back Premier League games in 2019 and he looks set to be involved from the start again at Everton this weekend.

Ozil has declared himself pleased with the recent impact of the creative midfielder who has often split opinions amongst critics.

But he says every player will be vital in their bid to win the race to secure Champions League football next season.

"He is working very well and playing well," Emery said.

"He is helping us. I am very happy with him.

“Now in the team we have a good atmosphere, good spirit.

"Each player is helping us with his quality and good behaviour. This is the spirit I want.

“They are doing that and Mesut is also.”

Monday's win over Newcastle moved the Gunners up to third in the Premier League table.

They can ill-afford any slip-ups given local rivals Spurs leapfrogged them to go back into third in midweek with Chelsea level on points in fifth and Manchester United just two behind.

Yet Emery said they are taking things one game at a time going in to Sunday's showdown at Goodison Park.

"We are thinking game by game," he added.

"We know five matches away of seven is a big challenge.

Unai Emery reveals why he chose Arsenal and moment he knew club was special

“Away we want to achieve good performances as at the Emirates Stadium. I think we have confidence now. We know it’s very difficult.

“It’s a long way for the last matches. Each match is coming for us, information is coming for us, how we can take the next matches.

“Sunday against Everton is the most important match for us, we know other teams will demand a lot from us because they will take a lot of points."
