Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta told to make Emile Smith Rowe decision amid Aubameyang injury concern

Arsenal are at home to struggling Southampton this afternoon in the hope of getting back to winning ways following successive defeats to Manchester United and Everton.

The Gunners currently sit in 7th place and are four points behind fourth-place West Ham.

Likewise, Ralph Hasenhüttl's men are currently undergoing a tough period in terms of results and have failed to pick up three points in their last four Premier League games.

To add to the Saints' woes, Alex McCarthy, Fraser Forster, Mohammed Salisu, Oriol Romeo, Adam Armstrong and Che Adams are all expected to be out of action, with 40-year-old emergency goalkeeper Willy Caballero in line to make his debut.

All eyes will however be on the team Mikel Arteta chooses and whether the former Gunners captain will make significant changes to the starting eleven.

Martin Odegaard is expected to keep his place and has certainly been one of the standout performers of late, despite conceding a poor penalty away at Old Trafford.

The Norwegian has scored in both of Arsenal's last two league games, but Gunners legend Martin Keown believes that Hale End Graduate Emile Smith Rowe should take his place as the team's number 10.

Keown initially talks about how striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should be brought back into the team and then goes on to discuss his reasoning behind dropping Odegaard.

"They’re not at the level where they can afford to let someone of that quality (Aubameyang) sit on the bench. I don’t think Aubameyang will start, I think Nketiah might be the player who starts," Keown said to TalkSport

"The boy nearly grabbed the headlines when he hit the post when he came on, that can happen to a young player, it can happen to Aubameyang five minutes later.

"It might be a case of the manager pulling Aubameyang in. I do feel Martinelli should continue on the left hand side and it might be time to put Smith Rowe back in the 10.

"Odegaard scored the other night but when we are out of possession I’m not sure he’s offering enough to protect the midfield.

"It’s not about just two midfield players sitting there it’s about three and what you’re getting from those players."
