Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta sends message to Manchester United's Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has expressed his sympathy for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Manchester United boss comes under increasing pressure.

Solskjaer is facing more questions over his position at Old Trafford following last weekend’s humiliating 5-0 defeat to Liverpool.

Not only did the result represent their worst loss to their great rivals in nearly 100 years, but it continued a winless run in the Premier League which has seen them pick up just one point form their last four games.

Since then, the manager’s job at United has been much discussed, with Antonio Conte, Zinedine Zidane and Brendan Rodgers having all been tipped to take over, although Solskjaer remains in a job as he takes his side to Tottenham on Saturday.

There, he will come up against another manager who finds himself under some pressure, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s position having also been questioned amid a less-than convincing start to the season.

Nevertheless, Spurs sit a point above United heading into the weekend, adding more incentive for both managers as they look to relieve some of the pressure currently on them.

Someone who knows all about that is Arteta, who came under intense scrutiny at the beginning of the season as his Arsenal side made a poor start to the campaign.

That pressure has relented somewhat with recent results, but Arteta knows only too well what both Solskjaer and Nuno are facing.

“It’s always about the results, and we all know that and the rest it doesn’t really matter,” said Arteta.

“So when you are having difficulties getting results, then you’re going to be in that position. There’s nothing new for anybody.

“But yes, obviously you feel [for them] because you know what you have to go through.

“So you feel that obviously, it’s not a nice moment for those that are going through that.”
