Mikel Arteta admitted he can't confirm Mesut Ozil will be an Arsenal player next season, saying he 'doesn't know' what the future holds for the German.
Ozil has been frozen out at Arsenal, amid claims he is suffering with a back injury.
The German's last game for the Gunners was before the Premier League season was postponed in March, and he's been left out of the squad altogether in recent fixtures.
Ozil has been vocal on social media, and tweeted: "I am ready," in apparent contradiction to Arsenal's claim he is suffering with a back complaint.
But this has done little to convince his boss, who doesn't appear ready to reintroduce him to the starting XI any time soon.
Asked if Ozil will be an Arsenal player next season, Arteta said: "I don't know.
"He is training now with the team, he has the same opportunities as everybody else but at the moment he's not in both, in the squads."
Arteta was full of promise that he could turn Ozil's declining career around at Arsenal when he took over from Unai Emery.
At the time, the World Cup winning-midfielder had found himself frozen out of the first team by then manager Emery.
Ozil was immediately returned to the squad following Arteta's appointment, but lightning has struck twice, and he is once again on the periphery at Arsenal.
