Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta responds to Alexandre Lacazette transfer talk amid Barcelona interest

Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette on a free transfer next summer.

The Catalan club are currently assessing their forward options, with Martin Braithwaite recently sustaining a long-term injury that has put the Spanish side on alert to find a replacement.

Barca were linked with a move for Lacazette over the summer but instead decided to pursue a move for Dutch international Luuk de Jong on loan from Sevilla instead.

The former Newcastle United striker has only made three appearances so far this season and is yet to find the net for the club, while Argentine striker Sergio Aguero is still unfit to play after joining in May from Man City.

Now, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona are planning on signing Lacazette when his contract expires at the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season.

The Frenchman joined Arsenal from Lyon in the summer of 2017 and has since played more than 150 times for the Gunners, scoring 67 goals in all competitions.

Lacazette has won two trophies in north London, first winning the 2017 Community Shield on his competitive debut for the club before taking home the 2019/20 FA Cup against Chelsea.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was asked in his press conference on Friday whether he would have to sell Lacazette due to the forward's contract expiring soon.

The Spaniard was coy with his answer, telling reporters: "We discuss that internally we discuss that with him.

"It’s a long season ahead of us everything can happen everything is open."

Arsenal are currently 13th in the Premier League table after picking up just two wins from their opening five matches. This Sunday they face a tough test as they host rivals Spurs in the first North London Derby of the season.
