Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta lined up by Barcelona as next manager as Xavi exit edges closer

Barcelona are eyeing up a potential future move for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta with the Catalan giants said to be impressed by the Spaniard for a number of reasons.

Arteta has seen the patience at Emirates Stadium in his methods come to light this season with Arsenal sitting top of the Premier League having won ten of their 12 games in the league so far this season.

Understandably, with the Gunners flying high, interest has appeared from abroad for the services Arteta, who only this year signed a new long-term deal keeping him at the club until 2027.

A new report has emerged from SPORT suggesting that Arteta would be a firm candidate to become the Barcelona head coach in the future. Xavi is currently in charge at Camp Nou, and despite successive Champions League group stage exits, their ex-player who made 767 appearances for the club, is the clubs ‘clear bet’, according to the report.

Barcelona are interested in acquiring Arteta's services for a number of reasons with the fact he honed his coaching craft under former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola a big plus. While his front-foot tactics and approach to dressing room problems, in particular with how he handled the disciplinary breach by now-Barcelona player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, appreciated by the club.

Arsenal fans can rest easy for the time being though as Xavi is set to remain Barcelona manager for the foreseeable future, but if Arteta continues to impress the Spanish clubs hierarchy and domestic success does not arrive for Xavi in the near-future, it's possible these plans could be fast-tracked with Barcelona known for their no-nonsense approach to sacking managers not delivering.
