Arsenal fans notice Arteta’s exchange with De Gea
Keen-eyed Arsenal fans have concocted some interesting theories after noticing Mikel Arteta’s exchange with Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.
Arsenal ended a 14-year wait for a Premier League win at Old Trafford on Sunday when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s penalty helped the Gunners see off their rivals.
In Arsenal’s ‘Bench Cam’, posted on the club’s YouTube channel, De Gea can be seen offering a congratulatory handshake to Arteta at the 6.49-minute mark, leading to some speculative comments from the Gunners fanbase.
Aouar can solve Arsenal’s creative woes - Wright
Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright believes the club must sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar to address the lack of creativity in Arteta’s side.
The Gunners were strongly linked with Aouar over the summer, and while they did sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid, Wright feels Arteta needs a player of Aouar’s craft to help service the likes of Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
"It is [important] because it's something that's continually labelled towards Arsenal, that they can't beat the big six teams," Wright told Premier League Productions.
"I think that was something that was a little while back now, not since [Arteta's] been there.
"I think the mentality has changed, the culture in what he's doing has changed, the intensity and the way he wants to play. It's all changed, it's a new Arsenal in what they're trying to do going forward.
'If he can continue to improve, like players improve with his coaching, and then he's then able to add to that with Aouar, who they're trying to get in the midfield alongside Partey, then you've got someone who can create for the forwards.
"So it's all looking good and winning games like this will only stand you in good stead and give confidence to the team."
Arsenal still need to strengthen in two areas before title push - Adams
Tony Adams believes Arsenal must add a goalkeeper and a number 10 before they can seriously compete for the Premier League title.
The former Gunners centre-back offered a positive assessment of Arsenal’s progression under Arteta following the win at Old Trafford, saying he believes they will finish above Manchester United.
However, the former skipper feels as though Arteta must fill the void left by Mesut Ozil ’s omission from the squad and also believes they should sign another goalkeeper following Emiliano Martinez’s departure to Aston Villa.
“They’ll finish above United. I think they’re a top six team,” Adams told Stadium Astro.
“There are some great positive signs, but they are missing a goalkeeper and a number 10, someone up-front, to be champions.
“We have a couple of leaders in central defence and midfield. We’re getting closer.”
