Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta identifies set-piece specialist Andreas Georgson for backroom role

Mikel Arteta is keen on making Brentford coach and set-piece specialist Andreas Georgson part of his backroom team at Arsenal.

The Spaniard wants to add to his coaching staff and is now set to step up that process following the departure of Freddie Ljungberg.

Ljungberg, who was interim head coach last season following the sacking of Unai Emery, left Arsenal on Saturday to pursue his own career as a manager.

The former midfielder was highly thought of by Arsenal, but both he and the club agreed it was time for him to move on so he could pursue his own ambitions.

Arteta now wants to add to his staff and Standard Sport understands he wants to bring in Georgson.

A formal move for the Swede is still in its early stages, but Arsenal are keen to make him part of their setup for the new campaign.

Georgson has a growing reputation and currently works at Brentford as their Head of Set Pieces and Individual Development. Prior to that he had been working at Malmo as an assistant coach.

Set-pieces were an issue for Arsenal last season and they have been in previous campaigns too, with the Gunners conceding a high number of goals from them.

Georgson’s expertise in that department makes him an attractive option and many clubs are now hiring specialist coaches. Liverpool, for example, have been working with throw-in expert Thomas Gronnemark.

Arsenal and Arteta have recent history of hiring coaches from Brentford after appointing Inaki Cana as their goalkeeping coach in December, and set-piece guru Georgson could be the latest to move to north London.
