Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta hits back at Brighton striker Neal Maupay: 'My players do not lack humility'

Mikel Arteta has dismissed Brighton striker Neal Maupay’s claims that his Arsenal squad lack humility.

Tempers flared during the Gunners' 2-1 loss at Amex Stadium on Saturday after Maupay collided with Bernd Leno, injuring the goalkeeper’s knee in the process.

Leno was incensed with Maupay as he was carried off on a stretcher and, after the striker scored a late winning goal, Arsenal's players confronted him at the final whistle.

Maupay later told the BBC: “Some of their [Arsenal] players need to learn what is humility - especially one of them."

Arteta, however, dismissed those accusations by the Frenchman, saying in his post-match press conference: “He can say whatever he wants.

“I know my players and one aspect that they do not miss for sure is humility.”

The commotion between players following the full-time whistle appeared to ignite when Arsenal's Matteo Guendouzi grabbed Maupay.

When asked if he feared a possible ban for the midfielder, Arteta replied: “I don’t know. I haven’t seen the actions.

“I have seen a lot of players just talking and getting together, but I didn’t know what happened.

“There is frustration at the end because we threw the game away. That is probably a reaction that can happen. But I always believe a player has no intention to get somebody else injured.”
