Arsenal at the World Cup today: Tomiyasu on verge, Tielemans second trial and Mudryk alternative

Sunday's round of World Cup fixtures presents four vital clashes as the future of 2014 World champions Germany hangs in the balance while Croatia and Canada face off in a crucial Group F game.

On the back of their historic 2-1 win over Germany on Wednesday, Japan kicks us off this morning when they face Costa Rica at 10am. Group F will then play their second matches of the tournament, with Belgium taking Morocco on before Croatia and Canada compete. The day's final clash sees 2010 champions Spain take on Germany, knowing that three points will ensure their place in the round of 16.

As we approach the January transfer window, plenty of eyes in the Arsenal recruitment team will be on today's fixtures in Qatar. With that in mind, football.london takes a look at the names you need to keep an eye on at the World Cup today.

Takehiro Tomiyasu (Japan)

Following their famous 2-1 win over Germany on Wednesday, Tomiyasu's Japan can earn themselves a space in the round of 16 with a victory over Costa Rica this morning. However, the Gunners defender may have to miss the fixture after reports from Japan insisted he was an injury doubt alongside Hiroki Sakai.

Lovro Majer (Croatia)

Rennes midfielder Majer has been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent months. The depth in Arteta's midfield has been a heavily discussed topic ahead of the January transfer window, and the 24-year-old has been one of the names tipped as a suitable option. Majer will be aiming to add to the 17 minutes of action he managed in the goalless draw with Morocco in their must-win clash against Canada.

Youri Tielemans (Belgium)

Tielemans will be available on a free transfer next summer and football.london understands the Gunners will wait to acquire his services, but with the Gunners keen to add midfielders to their ranks in January, they may wish to test Leicester's patience with an early bid. Tielemans has been one of the most consistent names linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, and his performances in Qatar could play a key factor in his short-term future.

Leandro Trossard (Belgium)

Alongside Tielemans, another Belgian tipped for a move to north London is Brighton's Trossard. With Mykhaylo Mudryk and Cody Gakpo strongly linked, a new wide-man has been prioritised to ease the burden on Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka. Trossard has drastically increased his price tag this season with seven Premier League goals and is almost set for a big move in the summer.

Yeremy Pino (Spain)

Villarreal attacker Pino was reportedly open to a move to Arsenal in the summer after talks in Spain suggested that Arteta's side had launched a £33.8 million offer. However, the 20-year-old remained with the Yellow Submarines and has recently been rumoured to join London rivals Chelsea. As mentioned earlier, further attacking options out wide is a priority, and Pino could be revisited should he impress in the World Cup.
