Arsenal 'approve' first January deal as Edu drops hint for future transfer plans

Arsenal have agreed to allow midfielder Mohamed Elneny to leave the club in January, according to some reports.

Turkish outlet Fanatik claim that Galatasaray are leading the race to sign Elneny, with the deal reportedly at the "signing stage" - although a deal is yet to be finalised.

The former Basel star, who has less than eight months remaining on his deal at the Emirates Stadium, has struggled for game time this season, featuring in just two Premier League fixtures so far this term

Behind the likes of Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the midfield pecking order, a January move could be on the cards and Elneny's agent William D'Avila admitted that his client wanted to join Galatasaray earlier this month.

"Galatasaray is a big club, they do well on the domestic and continental level as well, they are always chasing titles," D'Avila told Fanatik.

"I think Elneny’s move to Galatasaray will be good for him, especially that he himself wants to join the club. I have a good relationship with Galatasaray officials.

"I meet them on a weekly basis... I don’t know if Galatasaray are currently negotiating over Elneny, but they should.

"His contract ends by the end of the season and he could join them in January or after the season ends on a free transfer.

"Elneny wants to move to Turkey, and there is interest from multiple big clubs, but it’s too early to say where the player will end up."

The report also claims that Galatasaray are confident that they can bring the 29-year-old to the Nef Stadyumu on a free transfer in the New Year, something that the Gunners have previously allowed, with the likes of Willian and Mesut Ozil both leaving for free despite still having time left on their contracts at the club.

With the aforementioned Partey due to travel to the African Cup of Nations after the festive period, perhaps technical director Edu could be freeing up Elneny's wages ahead of a January swoop for a new midfielder.
