Arsenal announce first pre-season clash ahead of 2022/23 campaign

Arsenal have confirmed that they will face German outfit Nurnberg, in the first match of their pre-season ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

The Gunners ended last season in torrid fashion, losing two of their last three Premier League outings - allowing local rivals Tottenham Hotspur to pip them to fourth and a spot in next season's UEFA Champions League. However, there were still plenty of positives for Mikel Arteta's young side, who have now confirmed they will travel to Nurnberg as part of a pre-season training camp at Adidas HQ next month.

A club statement read: "We are pleased to announce that our men's first team will take on 1. FC Nürnberg as part of a pre-season training camp at Adidas HQ in Germany. The match against the 2. Bundesliga side will take place at the 50,000 capacity Max-Morlock-Stadion on Friday 8 July, kicking off at 4.30 pm BST.

"The Max-Morlock-Stadion was renovated ahead of the 2006 FIFA World Cup and hosted six matches during the tournament. The fixture will be played on the final day of our training camp, which is being held from July 4-8 at Adidas HQ in Herzogenaurach.

"Known as 'Home Ground', the state-of-the-art Adidas campus has first-class training facilities and will be our home for the duration of the training camp." The Gunners are also due to face Everton and Orlando City before taking on Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea and La Liga side Sevilla later in the month.

The club added: "The Germany camp will kick off our overseas pre-season activities and comes before we travel to the US to face Everton at the M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on July 16 in the Charm City match. Our US tour concludes in Orlando, where we will take on Orlando City on July 20 and London rivals Chelsea on July 23 in the FC Series.

"Our pre-season schedule also sees the return of the Emirates Cup in which we host LaLiga side, Sevilla, at Emirates Stadium on July 30." Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta also took the time to thank Adidas for hosting the north Londoners, admitting that it was the perfect opportunity for the club to connect with fans outside of the United Kingdom.

"We're very pleased to have our training camp at Adidas HQ confirmed to kick off our pre-season schedule," said the Spaniard. "I'd like to thank Adidas for hosting us.

"We're excited to get to work at the world-class facilities the campus has to offer. The fixture against FC Nürnberg will be a good test for us as we look to make a strong start to pre-season.

"Together with our matches in Baltimore, Orlando and at the Emirates Cup, this adds to a great run of fixtures that will help us prepare for a big season ahead. It's also a fantastic opportunity for us to connect our fans around the world, we're looking forward to seeing them on the road."
