Arsenal and Unai Emery handed massive injury boost ahead of Watford trip

Arsenal have been handed a timely boost ahead of next Sunday's Premier League clash against Watford.

The north London outfit's preparations for the game have been affected with confirmation that Javi Gracia has been dismissed and subsequently replaced by the returning Quique Sanchez Flores.

Trips to Vicarage Road for the Gunners of late have been decent. Last season's 1-0 win was the third time in four meetings in which they've won this particular fixture.

And there's good news on the fitness front for the visitors ahead of the game.

Via Reddit, an Arsenal supporter has revealed that he bumped into Calum Chambers and Rob Holding at Luton airport during the international break and that the latter said he's ready to play.

Holding's 2018/2019 campaign ended prematurely as he suffered a serious knee injury in the 2-2 draw away at Manchester United back in August, and has made a few appearances for the Under-23's this term.

But being back in contention is certainly a boost to Unai Emery.

Having started the new season with a clean sheet against Newcastle United, the Gunners have now conceded six goals in their last three games and questions have been asked of Sokratis' partnership with David Luiz.

With that said, it remains to been seen if Emery is ready to split up his two most senior defenders after just three games alongside each other.

It can be confirmed that Holding is closing in on a return to action.

Our Arsenal writer James Benge gave his thoughts when fans can expect to see Holding start a competitive game during an  Q&A session with fans on Thursday where there was also an update on Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney.

"It’s good news all round. Rob Holding has been progressing well with the Under-23s and has been training with the first team since pre-season.

"He is expected to feature at some stage in September when the midweek fixtures begin in earnest.

"Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney are expected back in training this month as well, both have been recovering rather swiftly. The latter in particular was ahead of schedule in his comeback.

"All three will be given time and of course they have had lengthy spells on the sideline so it may be a while before they’re back to their best.

"But it is certainly good news to have them around."
