Arsenal and Tottenham fined by FA for north London derby melee

North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham have been fined by the FA after accepting a charge of failing to control their players during their Premier League meeting earlier this month.

Players from both sides were involved in a melee after Eric Dier put his finger to his lips when celebrating his equaliser in front of the home crowd, with Arsenal substitutes getting involved and Aaron Ramsey and Dele Alli grappling on the touchline.

The fracas prompted Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching staff to run down the touchline and calm things down.

Tottenham have been handed a £50,000 fine by the FA while Arsenal will have to pay £45,000.

Referee Mike Dean wrote in his match report: “Could the FA please look at the incident on 32 minutes after Tottenham’s Eric Dier scored a goal his celebration near the corner flag then got a little out of hand with subs from both teams getting involved and technical area personnel.

“I have no idea if any misconduct took place there was far too many bodies in the way to make a decision and I have no choice in passing the incident over to the FA for further investigation.”
