Arsenal and Tottenham fans applaud Bukayo Saka upon return after Euros

Both sets of Arsenal and Tottenham fans on Sunday applauded Bukayo Saka as the forward returned to action following England's Euro 2020 final heartbreak.

The youngster saw his crucial penalty saved to confirm Italy as winners at Wembley last month, with Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho both earlier missing.

All three were subjected to horrendous racist abuse amid the fallout of the loss, with 11 arrests this week made following an investigation by police into online abuse.

Since the Euros, Saka has called on social media platforms to do more to tackle "hateful and hurtful messages", adding: "There is no place for racism or hate of any kind in football or in any area of society."

Saka returned to training at London Colney this week and was brought on for the final stages of Sunday’s north London derby for the Mind Series, being greeted by applause from the largely Spurs supporter contingent at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

A Spurs support group displayed a banner for the game in support of Saka, which read: “North London stands with Bukayo Saka and all players against racism and discrimination."

Spurs ran out 1-0 winners thanks to Heung-min Son’s goal.
